I Finally Get It

Posted on Sunday, July 1, 2012 | No Comments

Following my last post, I’ve been playing around with Windows 8 and whilst it took me a while (actually about three days), I can now say that I finally get it.

But it took me a few hours to think it through.

The Metro UI area where the Metro Apps are is essentially your playtime and entertainment area with the beautiful full screen applications – this is your ‘iPad’ mode.

But then the power of Windows shines where iPad fails.  On the iPad there is no ‘creative’ area, no where you can switch off the playtime and go write your blog posts, work documents, seriously browse the web, develop, etc.  Switching from Metro UI into Windows desktop allows this – its the very best of Windows 7.

The Surface computer Microsoft unveiled a few weeks ago is the hardware reflection of the software.  A touch screen tablet for playtime and entertainment, but then a full size keyboard available directly on the cover for when you want to be creative and need to work.

Its a genius approach and its finally settled by decision on upgrading.
